My paintings are built around images. Theses images become series where my focus is on color, shadow, and light and how these elements define form, dimension, and composition. I divide my time between my studio and Plein Air work.

I get a very clear mental image of the completed painting and I strive to recreate it. How I get there is the mystery and what brings me the most joy. Even though I use a process for beginning a painting and follow it pretty closely, I reach a point early on, when I come to the end of my “set up” process. It is then, that I have no idea what or how I will proceed. That’s when the surprises come. I literally go down a new path every time. Every time it’s different, every time the painting takes hold of me and doesn’t let me go until it’s satiated. Only then do I know the painting is completed. I can walk by it and it doesn’t grab me wanting my attention any more. Copyright all rights reserved.
